Former President Maumoon has decided to back a candidate against his own son Ghassan Maumoon.
Ghassan Maumoon was awarded the PPM ticket to contest for Th.Guraidhoo constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile Maumoon has backed Mohamed Ibrahim Manik (Mohodhey) to contest for the same constituency. Mohodhey will be contesting as a member of MRM, a political movement headed by Maumoon.
In the rift between former President Maumoon and former President Yameen, Ghassan took President Yameen’s side. During a rally held in 2017, President Yameen vowed to get Ghassan Maumoon elected to the parliament.
