More than 10 million Rufiyaa spent on bribes to dismiss Faiz and Muhthasim

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s report on the MMPRC embezzlement case has revealed that more than 10  million Rufiyaa of the embezzled funds were used to bribe lawmakers in the no-confidence vote taken at the parliament to dismiss former Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussein and Supreme Court Justice Muthasim Adnan.

The parliament dismissed the two judges on 14th December 2014. Speaking to the investigators, Abdulla Rafiu from Ma.Shady Cabin stated that the then Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adheeb requested him to arrange 10 million Rufiyaa by 0900 hours of 14th December.

Rafiu said that he handed the money to Mohammed Hussein (Oittey) a close associated of Ahmed Adheeb. He claimed that at the time he was unaware of what the money was for but that he believed that he was asked to arrange the money to fund something which was taking place in the parliament that day.

In addition he said that he do not know who received the money among the MPs. Current Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof and MP for Thimarafushi Mohammed Musthafa were among those who voted to oust the two judges.
