Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdullah Shahid has addressed the United Nations’ Human Rights Council today, which is located at Geneva, Switzerland
This was the second time the minister addressed the council. Eleven years ago while he was the foreign minister of former President Maumoon’s government, he addressed the council. Hence today’s address was a historic moment for the minister.
The minister stopped at Geneva on his way from the United Stated. He visited the United States on an official invitation from US secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Minister Shahid is the first Maldivian foreign minister to be ever officially hosted by a US Secretary of State.
