Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdullah Shahid has stated that, various agreements will be signed during the Maldives Investment Forum that begins tomorrow.
Speaking to the press today, Shahid said that agreements that will be signed include a 500 million Yen agreement with Japan, and increasing the assistance from USA to 11 million dollars from 3 million dollars and a 5 million Euro package by the EU. In addition he said that a 10 million dollar agreement will be signed with the ADB as well.
Shahid said that more representatives will take part in this forum compared to the past three forums held by the previous government. He said that it shows that the international community is ready to assist Maldives.
In tomorrow’s forum, representatives from 35 countries and 60 donor agencies will participate. Shahid said that the forum is a beginning and the work to get financial assistance to Maldives will continue even after the forum.
