Justice Didi was suspended in accordance with the law: JSC

Judicial Service Commission has stated in the court that Justice Abdullah Didi of the Supreme Court was suspended in accordance with the law.

Justice Didi filed a case against the Judicial Service Commission when the commission decided to suspend him. The court then issued a temporary order to lift the suspension until they make a decision on the case submitted by Didi.

In the first hearing of the case held yesterday, his lawyers requested revoke his suspension and to declare that the JSC’s investigation is unlawful.

JSC’s lawyer Hassan Zaheen said that the judge was suspended because Maldives Police Service was investigating him and not because a compliant against him was filed by President Nasheed who is also a member of the commission.

Didi’s lawyers said that Didi was suspended without asking him any questions and that it is against the law. However JSC’s lawyer said that he was suspended because the police was investigating him and JSC’s law does not require them to question the judge in that case.

The case is presided over by Chief Justice Dr.Ahmed Abdullah Didi, Justice Adam Mohammed and Justice Abdul Ghany Mohammed.

Justice Didi was suspended last June by the JSC. He then requested the Supreme Court to lift the suspension and the court ordered to do so.
