President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has granted Kulhudhuhfushi the status of a city.
President tweeted today saying that starting from tomorrow Kulhudhuhfushi will be granted the status of a city. As per the decentralization act, for an island to be granted the status of a city, the island must have a population of 10,000 people.
Kulhudhuhfushi attained the 10,000 people mark on 13th November 2018.
At the moment there are four cities in Maldives.
