Can the Bangladeshi nationals who wish to return home go back via the navy ship?

Since a Bangladeshi navy ships is on its way to Maldives many are of the view that the Bangladeshi nationals in Maldives who wish to return to their country should be allowed to go back via that ship.

In a press conference held by government the Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail said that when they started the regularisation program for the 100,000 Bangladeshis who are here illegally, around 40,000 joined the program and 837 people requested to be sent home.

He said out of them only 137 people has a passport and others do not have any valid documents. He also said that the High Commission is not very helpful in issuing documents.

Many are saying that since the airspace of Bangladesh is closed, it would be of great help to the Maldivians if those Bangladeshi nationals who wish to return are taken back.

During World War II even the British used to transport people from and to Maldives and since there is a close relationship between Maldives and Bangladesh it is important for the government to try to coordinate with Bangladeshi authorities and make some arrangements for those who wished to return
