The newly opened Terminal of Velana International Airport could go into world record books once again, this time for a significant Islamic gesture.
President Dr Mohamed Muizz announced today that, arrangements have been made to make the call for prayers at the new terminal, and that the decision has come into effect from Asru Prayer on Sunday.
Although his message on X is brief, it is a proud moment for the one hundred percent Muslim population of Maldives.
The new Terminal has already secured a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the spectacular fireworks display held to mark the opening on Saturday night. And making arrangements for the Azan to be heard for the five prayers at the airport could well earn a place in the Islamic History pages.
