Malaysian Airlines is set to increase its services to the Maldives with number of weekly flights increased from seven to eleven. The change will take effect from the 30th of October 2025.
After a break of 7 years, Malaysian airlines resumed operations to Maldives in August last year with daily one flight. But the number is set to be increased to seven flights per week from the 30th of October.
The airline already flies the route daily with MH485 departing Kuala Lumpur (KUL) at 0940 and arriving in the Maldives (MLE) at 1100. The return flight MH484 departs Maldives (MLE) at 1200 and arrives in Kuala Lumpur (KUL) at 1945.
The additional four services per week will depart KUL on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Malaysian airlines use Boing 737 MAX8 aircrafts, which has capacity for 210 passengers, for its operations to Maldives.
The expansion follows improved regional connectivity and strong inbound tourism from the Asia region. The new flight frequency also coincides with the opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport on 26th July 2025 which has expanded annual passenger handling capacity from 1.5 million to 7million and eliminated peak hour flight constraints.
Apart from tourists, large number of Maldivians also travel to Malaysia for medial and other purposes. In addition to Malaysian Airlines, Air Asia and Batik Air also operate direct flights between Maldives and Malaysia.
Looking at the number of Malaysian tourists who visit Maldives, over 11,269 Tourists visited to Maldives from Malaysia in the first half of this year, which is a 72.9 percent increase from the arrivals of 2024.
The increase in flight frequency by Malaysian Airlines is expected to strengthen the airline’s position in a competitive regional market and support efforts by the Maldives to accommodate the rising number of tourist arrivals and airline traffic through its upgraded airport infrastructure.
Based on the latest available information from airline timetable data, more airlines are increasing flights to the Maldives for the winter schedule of 2025-2026.
Qatar Airways has announced an increase in flights to the Maldives, from three daily to four daily flights.
Condor has scheduled flights to Malé five times per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday) for the winter 2025/2026 timetable.
Virgin Atlantic will operate direct flights from London Heathrow to Malé from 9 November 2025 to 20 April 2026, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
