The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced the successful completion of an important maintenance shutdown at its Hulhumalé power plant, finishing the work ahead of schedule this morning. The scheduled maintenance, which was necessary for the smooth running of the facility, caused temporary power interruptions across certain areas of Malé and Hulhumalé.
According to STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmee, the work on the 50 MW Hulhumalé power plant was completed at 8:43 AM, significantly earlier than the allotted timeframe between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Fahmee credited this early completion to the dedication, efficiency, and technical expertise of the company’s engineers and technicians. He highlighted their strong work ethic and commitment, extending his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire STELCO team for their efforts.
In his message on social media platform X, Fahmee also expressed his thanks to the public for their patience and cooperation during the temporary disruption. He gave assurance that the company will continue to make every effort to minimize the need for such power cuts in the future.
The Managing Director further explained that today’s maintenance work was an essential and scheduled procedure, aimed at upgrading the power grid to ensure a more reliable electricity supply and to help reduce the risk of unexpected outages going forward. STELCO also emphasized that critical infrastructure, including hospitals and other vital services, remained unaffected during the maintenance period.
