The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has launched the “Ma’rifa 2025” book exhibition, uniting publishers and booksellers to provide the public with reading materials at special discounted rates.
Organised by the ministry’s Publication Unit, the exhibition was officially inaugurated by Minister of State for Islamic Affairs Abdul Azeez Jamal Aboobakr during a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre.
The three-day event, taking place from 26 to 28 August, features a wide range of titles offered at prices lower than those in regular bookstores. The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to encourage a culture of reading across the Maldives.
The fair presents a rich collection of works designed to appeal to diverse audiences, including:
Religious books: An extensive variety of Islamic texts.
Dhivehi literature: Books highlighting and preserving the national language.
Children’s books: Educational resources and engaging stories for young readers.
Language learning materials: Specially prepared books to support children beginning their language journey.
The Ministry highlighted that “Ma’rifa” serves not only as a marketplace but also as a platform to build stronger connections between publishers, sellers, and readers, ensuring greater access to books within the community. The fair is open daily in two sessions to facilitate visitors.
This exhibition follows other recent initiatives by the Ministry to strengthen knowledge and learning, including the reopening of the Islamic Library at the King Salman Mosque last month.
