President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm congratulations to the People’s Republic of China on the occasion of its 76th National Day, praising the nation’s remarkable progress and reaffirming the close friendship between the Maldives and China.
Speaking at a reception in Malé to mark the occasion, attended by Ambassador Kong Xianhua, senior government officials, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, and distinguished guests, President Muizzu described the anniversary as a moment of pride for China and a reminder of the resilience of its people.
“The First of October is more than a date in history. It is the embodiment of a nation’s rebirth,” he said, commending China’s transformation over seventy-five years from adversity to becoming one of the world’s most dynamic and influential nations. He highlighted achievements ranging from the eradication of extreme poverty to advances in technology, infrastructure, and space exploration, calling China’s progress a story of “vision, perseverance, and the boundless potential of the human spirit.”
Reflecting on Maldives–China relations, President Muizzu emphasized that the bond goes beyond formal agreements, rooted instead in genuine friendship, shared experiences, and mutual trust. He recalled his own visits to China, where he witnessed both the scale of development and the warmth of its people.
He noted that the friendship is visible in Malé, through housing projects, community bridges, and educational opportunities, as well as in the steady flow of Chinese tourists who consider the Maldives their holiday destination, strengthening ties between the two nations.
As an island nation confronting climate change and global economic challenges, the Maldives, he said, values China’s role as a consistent partner. He praised China’s advocacy for sustainability, resilience, multilateralism, and the rights of small developing nations. “We look not only for partners in development, but for partners in vision,” he stressed.
The President reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening cooperation with China across politics, trade, culture, and education, guided by a shared goal of a sustainable and prosperous future.
“Friendship among nations can be a bridge—stronger than steel, enduring across generations, and able to withstand the storms of time,” President Muizzu said, expressing confidence that the ties between Maldives and China will continue to flourish.
He concluded by offering heartfelt congratulations once again to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Government, and the people of China, with prayers for their continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
