Minister Saeed Meets Ooredoo Group CEO to Discuss Strengthening Maldives’ Digital Economy

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Ooredoo Group Chief Executive Officer Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo.

The meeting, held at the Ooredoo Maldives Headquarters, focused on enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest and exploring ongoing collaboration to advance the Maldives’ digital economy. Senior members of Ooredoo’s management team also attended the discussions.

In a post shared on social media following the meeting, Minister Saeed said it was a pleasure to meet with Mr. Fakhroo and Ooredoo’s senior leadership to discuss joint efforts to strengthen digital transformation in the Maldives.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Mr. Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, CEO of Ooredoo Group, and members of the senior management team for a courtesy call, during which we discussed areas of mutual interest and ongoing collaboration in support of the Maldives’ digital economy,” the Minister wrote.

The meeting comes shortly after Ooredoo Maldives announced a partnership between Ooredoo Fintech and global financial platform PayPal to introduce PayPal services in the Maldives — a move aligned with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to expand the nation’s digital economy.

Ooredoo described the collaboration as a transformative step for the Maldivian economy, while the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade highlighted it as an important milestone in achieving the government’s digital transformation goals.
