President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially commissioned the new powerhouse constructed on K. Dhiffushi by the State Electric Company (STELCO).
Developed as part of the Government’s commitment to ensure sustainable and reliable electricity services across all inhabited islands, the new facility significantly enhances Dhiffushi’s power generation capacity.
According to STELCO, the island’s previous generators had a combined capacity of 2.2 megawatts, while the new powerhouse increases this capacity to 7 megawatts. This substantial upgrade is expected to fully meet the island’s current electricity demand and accommodate its future growth needs.
The modern facility also features dedicated office spaces, engine and control rooms, and an accommodation block for staff — ensuring improved operational efficiency and service continuity.
President Dr Muizzu was joined at the inauguration ceremony by STELCO’s Managing Director, Members of Parliament, and the President of Dhiffushi Island Council.
Residents of Dhiffushi have expressed their appreciation to the Government for this vital development, which marks a major step forward in strengthening the island’s essential infrastructure.
