The key “Minutes of the Meeting” document was signed on the sidelines of the High-Level Conference on Global Action for Shared Development, held in Beijing from April 21 to 22.

Emerging from detailed discussions during the conference, the agreement represents a notable advancement in bilateral ties. The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development stated that the project will be funded through an interest-free grant from the Chinese government, reflecting a shared commitment to development and cooperation.

The document was signed on behalf of the Maldives by State Minister for Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Ibrahim Thoaam Mohamed, while Liu Junfeng, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), signed for China.

During a separate meeting, both sides also assessed ongoing projects in the Maldives supported by Chinese funding. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining close collaboration to ensure all joint initiatives are carried out safely, on schedule, and successfully.
