Seychelles Foreign Minister begins landmark official trip to Maldives

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Seychelles, Barry Faure, has arrived in the Maldives for an official state visit aimed at enhancing bilateral engagement between the two island nations.

Upon arrival at Velana International Airport (VIA), he was received by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit is considered a milestone in diplomatic relations, as Barry Faure becomes the first Seychellois Foreign Minister to undertake an official visit to the Maldives.

The trip is being held at the invitation of Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam. During the visit, discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation between the Maldives and Seychelles, while also exploring collaboration on regional and international matters of shared interest.

Both countries, classified as Small Island Developing States (SIDS), continue to place importance on strengthening partnerships and fostering closer ties in areas of mutual benefit.
