Fushidhiggaru agreement is the most deceitful and biggest embezzlement- Democracy Lab
Democracy Lab has stated the Fushidhiggaru agreement is the most deceitful and biggest embezzlement in the recent history of Maldives.

Democracy Lab made this remark in a letter addressed to the President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Hassan Luthfee.

“On 18th January 2013 Fushidhiggaru lagoon was leased to Prime Capital Maldives under an agreement signed by Minister of Finance Abdulla Jihad and Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb. Therefore, the matter should be investigated, the agreement should be declared void and the criminals should be brought to justice,” the letter stated.

The letter also stated that it has been exposed that the agreement was made by Adheeb and Jihad without the knowledge of the then President, Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.

“President summoned the Minister of Tourism Adheeb and the Minister of Finance Jihad and both of them denied making the agreement and signing it. However, Prime Capital appointed their business development Manager Anastasia Onisco for agreement related issues for the Economic Ministry.”

The letter stated that the Economic Ministry declared that the agreement was illegal.

“When the President became angry and spoke against the issue, Adheeb became to think that he will lose the ministry so put pressure on the President through PPM Deputy Leader and Fonadhoo constituency MP Abdur Raheem,” the letter stated.

Previously, the current Home Minister Umar Naseer accused the then Presidential candidate of PPM and the current President Abdulla Yameen of being the master mind behind the agreement.

Umar said that the agreement was signed in Traders Hotel in the midnight hours. Jihad signed on behalf of the state. He said that the lagoon was leased to “Prime Capital Maldives” which is a company founded by a Ukrainian born citizen of New Zealand. He said that Minister Adheeb signed as a witness to the agreement.
