President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that the government will not hesitate to implement the punishment upon criminals sentenced by the court for commiting criminal offences.
The President made this remark speaking at the public rally of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) held last night at Alimas Carnival. He said that it is not him who prosecutes people but it is the responsibility of the Prosecutor General. He said that he has no role in it.
President Yameen said that if a court issues a verdict then there is three opportunities of appeal. He said that he has no influence whatsoever in any of those phases.
The President assured that he is trying to implement the law upon all people equally without any exception as reminded by the opposition.
President Yameen called the opposition to submit any cases of breaches of the constitution by the government to the courts of law. He said that he is certain that the courts that they will judge between them.
