Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has called the authorities not to lead the people of Maldives to poverty.
Gasim said that the international communities such as the United Nations (UN) are already raising concern regarding the illegal changes brought to the constitution.
He said that the whole world knows that there is a political motive behind the arrest of former President Mohamed Nasheed. He said that no one has the right to arrest anyone to achieve political motive.
“The whole world is watching the developments in Maldives. There are foreign intelligence agents in Maldives. The world knows what is going on in Maldives,” he said.
The Jumhooree party leader said that the world will not stay silent and let the government escalate the oppression against the people.
“Sanctions will be imposed. If such an embargo is issued then what will happen? Are you trying to lead the country to poverty?”
Gasim questioned why the government is suddenly pressing terrorism charges against Nasheed after withdrawing the charges.
