Hulhuhenveiru constituency MP Abdulla Shahid has said that the people will confront the oppression of the government if the government keeps oppressing them.
Speaking to VTV from UK, Shahid said that he was keeping international parties and media informed of the situation in Maldives.
Shahid appealed the Police and Army to retreat to their command centers. He said that they should not be involved in the political disputes that occur between political rivals.
He said that that the army taking up arms and patrolling the streets was damaging to tourism.
Shahid made the remark as majority of the revenue comes from tourism. He added that “should the tourists see army personnel patrolling the city, with arms, their perception of the country would shift, creating irreparable damage to the country’s image.”
He said that these acts were of a dictatorial regime and that these were signs that President Yameen’s regime was coming to an end.
