President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom yesterday delivered the Presidential Address, as stipulated by Article 84 of the Constitution, to reconvene the People’s Majlis for the year 2015. The Presidential Address was delivered at 10 a.m. today at the First Sitting of the First Session of the People’s Majlis for this year.
In his address, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom underscored ongoing projects by the Government, and briefed the parliament on plans to further improve the status of the nation. He spoke on recent socio-economic and political developments in Maldives and on strategies to tackle emerging issues.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom was received at the People’s Majlis yesterday morning by Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed and Secretary General Ahmed Mohamed. The President was escorted with a Guard of Honour by the Maldives National Defence Force.
The First Sitting of the First Session of the People’s Majlis for 2015 was attended by Cabinet Ministers, state dignitaries and diplomatic attachés.
While the President gave the Presidential Address, the opposition members protested against the “illegal arrest of Former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim and Former President Mohamed Nasheed.
MDP MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that they had come to Parliament as delegates of the citizens, and that they had completed their objective of making their voices be heard by the President.
