Amendment to the constitution submitted by MP for Hoarafushi constituency Mohamed Ismail proposing to stipulate an age limit for Presidential candidates have been revoked in the second sitting of the Peoples’ Majlis held this year.
When the bill was first submitted, Jumhooree Party Parliamentary group stated that they will do everything they can to make it a failure.
Jumhooree Party’s PG group stated that this amendment is against the civil liberties granted by the constitution. The party stated that no amendment which restricts any civil liberty granted by the constitution can be accepted.
Analysts state that this bill was withdrawn because the bill will not get a majority support from the Majlis to pass it.
