President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the prosecution of people charged with crime is not persecution of politicians.
President Yameen made this remark during the meeting held with the youth at Grass Citron. He said that if a person who perpetrated a crime happens to be a politician then it will not stop the authority from arresting him.
He said that there will be no exception made and all will be treated equally.
President Yameen said that the opposition is not in reality calling for the defence of the constitution but are in fact calling for the violation of the constitution by releasing criminals.
During his speech, he reiterated that the executive power will not influence the judicial power of state. He said that the judicial power will have the full independence to decide on cases.
