Government has issued MVR8.6 million worth of loans to 14 fishermen and boat owners.
The ceremony to hand over the loan documents to the successful applicants were held yesterday at the President’s Office.
Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee said that the Government’s loan scheme aimed at modernizing the traditional vessels and increase youth engagement in the fisheries sector.
He said that loan for the 14 successful applicants will benefit about 280 families considering that each Dhoni will have 20 fishermen. He said that if each family has about 5 members then this loan will benefit about 1400 people.
