Fire broke out at a Lily Store godown at M. Oakvilla last night. The incident happened at about 11:10 last night.
According to reports the godown mainly stored food items and cosmetics. The whole godown was completely burned down during the fire.
The reason behind this fire incident is as of yet unknown. The fire also spread to adjoining houses as well. Explosions were also heard around the area.
While Maldives Police Service (MPS), MNDF and the public worked extensively to control the fire, National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) and Maldives National Red Crescent (MNRC) were quick to rush for relief efforts for victims, who had been left stranded after their houses had caught fire.
According to Vmedia reports, residents of nearby houses were evacuated due to imminent danger while the Prosecutor General (PG) Muhuthaz Muhsin was also among one of the many who were being evacuated.
