Galolhu Dhekunu MP Ahmed Mahloof has been arrested in last night’s “Against Oppression” protest organized by MDP, Adhaalath and Jumhooree Party.
Maldives Police Service stated that Mahloof was arrested for breaking the barricade. In addition to him, some of his body guards were also arrested.
Mahloof was arrested with force and some Police officers used foul language against the MP. They also ripped his shirt.
Police said that two police officers were injured while trying to disperse the crowd and dismantle the protesters. Many protestors were injured during last night’s protest as well.
Protestors and Police clashed when the Police confiscated the sound system used by the protestors.
As many people participated in the protest, different groups protested in different parts of Male’.
In last night’s protest, the participants called to release former President Mohamed Nasheed and Colonel Nazim. They also called to stop all the oppressive actions taken against the Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim.
