Dr. Hussein Rasheed, the deputy leader of the Jumhooree Party has said that the government should yield to the demands of the protestors who are calling for justice.
Speaking at last night’s rally of the opposition entitled “Maldivians, in Defence of Oppression,” Dr. Hussein said that the people are taking to the streets in increasingly large numbers to demand that their government is held to account.
He said that the former Defence Minister Colonel Mohamed Nazim who was wrongfully accused and framed of crimes was a national hero who has served the nation. He said that Nazim was framed when the President felt threatened by the increase of Nazim’s fame among the public.
Dr, Hussein said that President Yameen in order to cement his presidential seat is unifying all powers of state.
“It is for this reason that the situation has worsened. And we will not remain silent regarding this,” he said.
Dr. Hussein called the government to establish justice and make the judiciary free from their undue influences.
