A top official of the Jumhooree Party, Sobah Rasheed has said that the government cancelled the duty levied on gold after awarding a gold trader with Nishaan Muleege Sharafge Izzaiy (Order of Distinguished Rule of Muleege).
He said that the only concern of the government is to fill their pockets through corruption, deception and oppression.
Sobah said that the government is increasing the taxes and duties taken from the people but they cancelled the duty on gold after government top leaders made business agreements with a gold trader from Dubai.
“Will a government compassionate to the people do this? They have doubled the taxes from basic goods. But they cancelled the tax levied from gold. What kind of compassion is this?,” he asked.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom conferred Nishaan Muleege Sharafge Izzaiy on Philanthropist, Mr. Mahmoud Fatah Ali Abdulla Al Khajeh of the United Arab Emirates on January.
Nishaan Muleege Sharafge Izzaiy (Order of Distinguished Rule of Muleege) was created in honour of Al-Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen and is one of the high ranking honours conferred by the State.
According to the government, the medal was conferred upon Mr. Khajeh in recognition of his generous and sincere contributions towards the betterment of the Maldivian people, particularly his active role in supporting the efforts to uplift the livelihoods of the disadvantaged people of the Maldives.
