Congregatory supplication to be held is a religious innovation- Dr. Majeed
Congregatory supplication to be held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of independence is a blameworthy religious innovation, says former Islamic Minister Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari.

He made this remark, while the President of the Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran stated that he does not know how celebrating the 50th anniversary with a congregatory supplication and sacrifice of goats can be considered a religious ritual.

Sheikh Imran raised questions whether the event is a politically motivated event. He also said that a fatwa needs to be issued regarding the matter.

Dr. Majeed said that the event is a clear innovation. He said that supplicating is an act of worship however to specify a certain event and sacrificing on a certain date is blameworthy.

However, the Islamic Ministry states that it is not a religious innovation but a praiseworthy act of worship.

The Home Ministry announces that the event will be held on Maafannu stadium after isha. The President’s Office states that Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed will be leading the prayer.
