Former Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis, Abdulla Shahid has said that the government has no self-esteem and confidence.
He made this remark speaking at the public rally entitled “Maldivians against Tyranny.”
Shahid said that the government has gone beyond bounds and have arrested the symbol of democracy of Maldives, former President Mohamed Nasheed. He said that this alone is enough as a proof for the tyranny and despotism of the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
He said that the government did not stop at arresting and sentencing Nasheed but also changed the constitution to disallow Nasheed from running for presidency. He said that regardless of these laws that the government is passing Nasheed will still be the president of MDP.
Shahid said that MDP will do everything necessary to save Nasheed from the oppression of the government.
