Secretary General of the Jumhooree Party, Ahmed Sameer has said that the government should be stopped from tyrannizing the people using the majority they have in the Peoples’ Majlis.
He said that the government did not fulfill the required process when delaying the implementation of the new penal code for three months. He said that the Attorney General and other authorities were not summoned for questioning before passing to delay the implementation.
He said that the implementation of the penal code was delayed without even informing the state attorney general.
Sameer said that if an amendment is to be brought to a bill already passed by the Majlis then it should be done after consulting the responsible authorities and researching it by the responsible committee. He said that none of these processes were followed.
He said that a bill submitted to a committee cannot be annulled by an amendment passed. He said that the government is using the majority they have in the Majlis to achieve their sinister political goals.
