Govt is demanding fines from Villa not for breaching the agreement- Lawyer
Villa Group’s lawyer Ahmed Shafeeq said that the government is demanding fines from Villa Group not because the company has breached the agreements with the government.

He said that the agreements clearly mention what should be done if the company breaches any of the articles of the agreements.

Shafeeq said that the Tourism ministry has not informed Villa Group regarding any breaches of the agreement and this is enough evidence that the company did not breach any agreements.

“If the company breaches the agreement the tourism ministry will send notices to correct them. However Villa Group did not receive any notices. This shows that they are terminating the agreements and demanding fines not because the company breached the agreements,” he said.

He said that neither the Tourism Ministry, nor MIRA can show any violation on the part of Villa Group. He said that therefore, the termination of the agreement and the demand for payment lack legal grounds.

“We requested them to clarify how such a large amount has been incurred, but they did not want to comply with our demand” said Shafeeq.

He warned investors to take note of how Villa Group is being treated. He said that they received no cooperation from the government in efforts to discuss about a solution to the problem.
