Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader, Ameen Ibrahim has said that the government is giving the fishing areas of Maldives to foreigners which is leading Maldivian fishermen to poverty.
Ameen made this this remark speaking at last night’s rally of the “Maldivians against tyranny” movement. He said that the government is not even inspecting how these foreigners are fishing in those areas. He said that as a result fishing industry has seen a decline in the past two three months.
“Fishermen are saying that they do not find good schools of fish. How can they? When they are not allowed near them. The people allowed by the government has set up barricades,” he said.
Ameen said that giving the fishing areas to foreigners only benefits about six people in the government and the fishing industry is declining with every passing day.
In addition to this tyranny against the fishermen, he said that the government added more oppression on them by taking duties from fuel. Even if the fuel charges has not gone up yet suddenly it will be doubled.
Furthermore, Ameen said that the health services are also in an appalling state regardless of the claims that the government is developing it.
He said that while the government has brought specialist there are no facilities to make different medical tests.
