Some of the local media reports that Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has stated that they will be taking action against Villa Group if they company fails to pay the 90 million US dollars demanded by the Tourism Ministry.
Villa Group says that they have no due payments to be paid for Tourism Ministry or any other institution of the state. They say that they have been making their payments regularly.
The company adds that up until now the Tourism Ministry and Mira has not shown any evidence that they have due payments except the demand of the Tourism Ministry for it.
Villa Group said that they tried to hold discussions with the Tourism Ministry in this regard but it was a failure.
Some banks have also raised concern regarding the demand of the tourism ministry from Villa Group without any right.
A top official of one of the leading Banks in Maldives said that he has been monitoring the issue of the government fines on Villa Group.
He said that he has been studying the case very closely and even sent the case to the “headoffice” to be investigated.
“Our legal team has studied the case. We did not find that the Villa Group has breached any of the agreements or has any outstanding payments. We have tried to check the issue with Mira as well. However we got a reply very late from a person who works there. He said that this maybe politics,” he said.
He said that he will not be making any official statements because of how the situation of Maldives is. However there will be financial institutions which will be criticizing this case.
