Adhaalath Party President, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has said that nothing unconstitutional will happen on Mayday special rally.
He made this remark at the press conference held yesterday at Adhaalath Party office by the “Maldivians, against Tyranny” movement.
Sheikh Imran said that the government is trying to instill fear in the people by saying that the rally will be a confrontation so that the people do not participate in it.
“The people know what we are doing. We are working to end oppression. We are doing it within the confines of law,” he said.
Sheikh Imran said that the Mayday rally will not be a confrontation but a protest against the oppression of the government.
“Police and army will be are partners. They are the people there to protect and serve the people. They are two institutions that we honour and respect,” he said.
Sheikh Imran requested the Police and the Army to protect the participants of the protest on that day. “We will not do anything to undermine and damage those two institutions. I request the leaders and the officers of those two institutions to remain steadfast in protecting the nation and the people. We are with you. You are with the people. You are with the oppressed. You are with the oppressed,” he said.
Sheikh Imran said that the Mayday rally will be a peaceful rally which will bring results. “We will remain upon firm resolve and enthusiasm. We will remain within the confines of law. We will not be intimidated. We will not step back,” he said.
