Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim is being oppressed by President Yameen Abdul Gayoom because he helped him win the Presidency, says Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Dr. Hussein Rasheed.
He made this remark speaking at the “Maldivians against tyranny” rally held at Faafu Atoll Bilehdhoo last night.
Dr. Hussein said that Gasim garnered more votes for Yameen in the second round of the Presidential election compared to the votes garnered for him by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and all others.
He said that from that moment President Yameen took Gasim as a threat as he realized that Gasim can garner many votes in an election. “Therefore he wanted to bring down Gasim Ibrahim before 2018. He does not want him to reach the Presidential Election of 2018,” he said.
Dr. Hussein said that President Yameen does not have any self-confidence and himself believes that he cannot win an election with any of these competent. He said that President Nasheed was also imprisoned because for President Yameen he was a threat.
In addition to this, Dr. Hussein said that on mayday the people will not be protesting to bring down the President Yameen’s government but to rectify his government.
