Secretary General of the Jumhooree Party, Ahmed Sameer has said that the Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim had no choice but to speak against the government when the government oppression escalated.
Sameer said that Gasim was patient with regards to the government respecting the agreement made with President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom even when the government terminated Jumhooree Party from the government coalition.
He said that Gasim was forced finally to speak against the government when the government started changing the constitution to their whims and narrowing the constitutional powers.
Sameer said that a person such as Gasim who is known for his patriotism cannot tolerate such unconstitutional actions.
“Therefore he was forced to speak against the government. He gave full cooperation to the government from within and outside the Peoples’ Majlis even when they terminated the coalition agreement with Jumhooree Party,” he said.
