The 3 political leaders arrested during the Mayday activities held on Friday against the government oppression has been remanded for a period of 15 days.
The three leaders remanded last night by the Criminal Court were Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla, Jumhooree Party leader Ameen Ibrahim and MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed.
During the remand session at Court, the government celebrated the arrest of the three leaders with fireworks.
Speakers at the opposition rally held at Artificial Beach area last night noted that the government celebrated their record to have arrested the greatest number of political leaders in one night using the Police.
According to Police reports, 192 from the common people and three political leaders were arrested during the Friday protest. According to these reports, 184 people and the three leaders were all remanded for a period of 15 days in jail.
In recent history, this is the first time such a great number of political leaders have been arrested.
Many believe that the government would have arrested the Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim too if he was in the country.
It is also believed that Gasim Ibrahim will be arrested as soon as he returns to Maldives.
