Machangolhi Uthuru constituency MP, Mariya Ahmed Didi has said that the current crisis faced by the Maldivian nation cannot be solved by holding discussions with the Police.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, she said that the people are concerned because of the tyranny and authoritarian rule of the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. She said that the people are disappointed with the actions of the government they elected.
Mariya said that holding discussions with Police will not solve any problems while the only concern of the Police is the people coming out to the streets to speak out against the government tyranny.
She said that the discussions with police will not end the tyranny of the government. “The only solution is for the government to listen to the people and yield to their demands,” she said.
Mariya said that the Police can be mediators for the government to make them listen to the concerns of the people.
“Protesting and speaking out against government is a basic right of the people granted by the constitution,” she said.
