Saudi Arabia’s most popular English newspaper, Arab News has called that dialogue is the best way to solve the problems faced by Maldives.
In an article written by S.H. Moulana, he says that the unrest in Maldives during Mayday rally is very saddening.
“We were saddened to read about the unrest in Maldives during the May Day rally,” he wrote.
Moulana said that the ongoing disturbance in this country is a source of great concern, as Maldives was a symbol of peace and harmony and a great tourist attraction.
“The tug-of-war between the government and the opposition will not bode well for the erstwhile peaceful tourist hub,” he said.
He stressed that the current situation should be handled very carefully lest the country descends into chaos.
“The country’s opposition wants the immediate release of all political prisoners, including former President Mohammed Nasheed and former Defense Minister Mohammed Nazim,” he noted.
Moulana also stated that he expects the Maldivians to resolve their problem amicably as there is a high literacy rate in Maldives.
“Violence only breeds violence. Dialogue is the best way to find solutions to one’s problems,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that the government and the opposition should convene a meeting to resolve their differences in the greater good of the country.
