Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim has said that the government’s tyranny and oppression against the Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim is evidence that the oppression of the government still continues.
Ameen made this remark speaking to the media after arriving in Male' from Dhoonidhoo detention facility.
The Deputy Leader of Jumhooree Party arrived back in Male' yesterday, after being released from police custody following High Court's ruling , which ordered the police to release the jailed politician.
He said that the government cannot continue this tyranny against the people. He said that the government cannot just take advantage of their authority to violate the rights of the people and withhold them.
“They cannot seize the wealth of the people just like that. There still exists courts of law. There still exists legal procedures. Without due process they cannot seize the wealth of people just like that. Regardless of who are trying to do it, they cannot do it. It is not their right. They should be within the law,” he said.
In addition to this, speaking about the condition in which he was kept in at the Dhoonidhoo Detention Facility, Ameen said that he along with Ali Waheed and Sheikh Imran Abdulla were kept in jail cells where dangerous criminals are usually held at. In addition to this, he highlighted that police had not beaten or shown any signs of brutality during the time he was held there.
Ameen also called on the government to release all those who were detained during the 'May Day' protest, claiming that all of them were arrested outside the legal boundaries.
