Maldivians against oppression movement announces second mass rally for June 12, 2015.
Parliamentary group leader of MDP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) made the announcement on behalf of opposition parties at a press conference held at Adhaalath Party’s headquarters today.
Ibu said that, even this rally will be held under the “Maldivians against oppression” banner and urged citizens to show their strength in numbers in the June 12 rally as well.
He said that while Adhaalath Party organized the May Day rally, the June 12 rally shall be organized by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He added that, similar to the May Day protest, the June 12 rally shall be held in accordance with the constitution and laws of the country.
He said that preparations will begin on Thursday.
When asked if MDP will participate in the peace talks proposed by President Abdulla Yameen, Ibu said that a decision will be made on Thursday. He however questioned whether a favorable environment exists for such talks.
Ibu said that the Maldivians against oppression movement can be stopped only when the government stops oppression citizens.
