Opposition MDP’s former President Ibrahim Ismail “Ibra” has said that the party first accepted the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom thinking that the government might do some good for the people.
Ibra made this remark speaking at last night’s rally of the “Maldivians against tyranny” protests.
“The legitimacy of the government is in question. There will be not five people from every hundred people who will say yes to the government,” he said.
He said that no foreign country accepts the government accept China. “In reality China also does not accept the current government. If they accepted then the Hulhule’ – Male’ bridge will be finished by now,” he said.
Ibra said that if a government wants to be a valid government then they should get the “yes” from the people. “Without it a government cannot continue. I always said that this government is not legitimate,” he said.
Ibra said that the nation has regressed instead of progressing because of the actions of the government of President Yameen.
He said that President Mohamed Nasheed is the only President who has compassion to the people in the history of Maldive.
