President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdullah has stated that hope to protect the separation of powers in the Maldives can be maintained by the effort of the citizens of the country.
The Minister made this statement upon his release on Wednesday after being arrested during the May Day protest on the first of this month.
Sheikh Imran stated that upon his release by the High Court and Criminal Court, hope to maintain and flourish a system of separation of powers in the Maldives has been renewed.
“There is hope for establishing a system of the three separations of powers in a democracy,” he stated.
The Minister noted that the exertion of citizens was necessary.
“I believe that now is the time for citizens to put in as much effort to protect the three separation of powers for the democratic system or we may lose it within no time. All citizens should collect together and put extra exertion as a means of protecting the system,” Sheikh Imran noted.
Additionally, Sheikh Imran stated that the sacrifice made by leaders of the opposition by spending days in imprisonment resulted in the government becoming open for discussion. He noted that this was the result of the effort of thousands of citizens who came out to protest on the 1st of May.
Minister Sheikh Imran thanked citizens for their effort and demonstration during the time when leaders were held in custody.
