Dr. Shaheem leaves politics for academic role
Former Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that he had officially left politics in order to pursue a more academic role.

Dr. Shaheem stated that he would resign as a member of Adhaalath Party (AP) in the near future as well. He added that he would be serving the nation on an educational, religious, humanitarian and human resources platform.

Dr. Shaheed stated that these areas were essential for the country and scholars from these areas were required for these areas. He noted that there were many scholars active in the political field. However, he added that the number of scholars in the social field was regrettably low.

He added that he had no intention of joining any political parties.

Dr. Shaheem added that he would continue serving the nation on religious issues. He stated that he wished to remain in service of Islam, spreading Islamic knowledge and social issues in the country.

Dr. Shaheem had carried out many initiatives to further education and humanitarian interests in the nation, while he was serving as the Minister for Islamic Affairs.

He had initiated a training program for hafez (scholars who had learnt the Quran by heart), video conference classes for the students from the islands who had registered for the courses conducted by the Center of Holy Quran, introduction of the Waqf Fund and started the construction of the DharulIman building.

It has to be noted that the relations between Saudi Arabia and Maldives had strengthened and reached new heights under the tenure of Dr. Shaheem as the Islamic Minister.
