Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has stated that a fuel farm will be built in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, which would have the capacity to store 45,000 metric tonnes of oil, as part of the airport development project.
MACL Managing Director (MD) AdhilMoosa made the revelation today in the ceremony held in Hulhule’ Island Hotel to renew the agreement between MACL and State Trading Organization for the supply of jet aviation fuel for the airport.
AdhilMoosa stated that presently, only 15,000 metric tonnes of fuel can be stored in the airport. However, he stated that such a farm would substantially reduce the costs of oil storage and transportation.
“Sometimes we have to import two shipments every month. Therefore, if we can expand the storage facility, we can benefit greatly, with lower costs for both companies,” Adhil said.
The Government had stated that airport expansion would be kicked off this year with an additional runway, new passenger terminal and other facilities. Chinese and Japanese companies have been tasked with this project.
