President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated if FarishMaumoon is elected to the vacant seat for Dhiggaru Constituency, then development for the Constituency would be speeded up.
He made the statement in a speech delivered to the citizens of the island his tour of Dhiggaru Constituency. President Yameen stated that the Government had secured the majority of the Parliament and that Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) were leading in the Parliament. Therefore, he added that it would be easier to include better projects for the Constituency and secure the budget for such projects.
President Yameen added that going up against the Government over and over again would not yield the required results for the local community.
“Citizens require the repair of the sea wall. The construction of new classrooms. Generators for electricity supply. Outside walls on football pitches, construction of futsal grounds. These cannot go ahead with constant protests against the Government. We need the support and participation of the citizens,” he said.
President Yameen stated that if the citizens would require an opposition rule for such projects, they would have to wait an additional three and half years and that this was not something most of the citizens wanted.
President Yameen added that island councils that do not have a Government majority are deliberately halting the Government projects. He stated that the due to this many of the Government projects had been halted indefinitely. He added that if the opposition had gotten the majority in the Parliament this would be demonstrated on a national scale.
President Yameen had appealed to the Constituents of Dhiggaru to elect FarishMaumoon with a vast majority.
