Makunudhoo Constituency Member of Parliament AnaaraaNaeem has said that she did not want a culture that perpetrated jailing those who speak out against the Government.
She made the statement in connection to the arrest of Adhaalath Party (AP) President Sheikh Imran Abdullah, on the orders of Criminal Court issued to the Police. AP has stated that Sheikh Imran was arrested on a political charge.
Normally, Court orders are issued to Police to arrest individuals to appear in Court, after they have failed to present themselves in Court. Many have expressed over the arrest, citing that Sheikh Imran had never failed to appear in Government institutions previously.
Kendhoo Constituency MP and lawyer Ali Hussain had also stated previously that Supreme Court had issued a ruling that the greatest injustice was that a person could be arrested on suspicion of a crime.
