America voices concern over terrorism charges on opposition leaders
America has raised concern over the terrorism charges issued on opposition leaders Adhaalath Party (AP) President Sheikh Imran Abdullah, Jumhooree Party (JP) Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim and JP Council Member Sobah Rasheed.

A tweet posted by the American Embassy in Sri Lanka tonight stated that the terror charges on the three were deeply troubling. The tweet added that the Embassy was eager to see the Government taking steps to restore confidence in democracy and enforce rule of law.

The arrest and subsequent detention of AP President Sheikh Imran until the end of trial has grabbed the attention of the world, with many major news agencies covering the issue.

In spite of the media and global attention to the situation locally, the Government has stated that that the Government would not take heed of attempts of foreign parties to intervene in local issues.
