Jumhooree Party (JP) Council Member Sobah Rasheed has sought asylum in a foreign nation.
He made the announcement via a video made public on youtube last night.
In the message Soba stated that he had sought asylum as the Government had initiated terror charges on him. He added that should the trial proceed as such, there as a high possibility he would face 10 to 15 years in jail.
Sobah added that he would remain steadfast in his mission to rectify the injustices perpetrated by the Government. He stated that he would be working to raise awareness of the situation in Maldives amongst foreign nations and organizations.
He also stated that he started his work in order to prevent the gross miscarriages of justice, especially in the case of now jailed former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim. He that he would focus on freeing JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim from the economic sanctions imposed on him by the Government as well as freeing political prisoners from jail.
He concluded his message by stating that he would work within legal means to achieve his goals.
